Facebook tiene cada vez más competidores - euronews

To Facebook and Twitter, the most famous social networks so far, have left them competing series.

Pair, the first application for couples; Family Leaf, a network dedicated to the family; or Snapchap, which proposes sharing photos, but only for a time.

Since some months ago, the new networks social have inundiado Internet, with promises of privacy and confidentiality.

Would return to private life now the new trend in social media?

In Silicon Valley, Mathew Honan is an attentive observer of the evolution of social networks. According to him, these mini networks have a future.

"It is a trend of time reserved for early consumers, but increasingly more people are going to feel this need." I myself. Many have accepted in our social networks, and especially on Facebook, to people that we do not desire to communicate every day. "And sometimes, you want to speak to a smaller, more intimate group," says Mathew Honan, journalist.

The network of fashion today in California is Path. A mobile application for iphone, created in 2010, and has already three million users.

Path has installed its headquarters in the heart of San Francisco. Quiet atmosphere and fabulous views over the Bay.

Its founder was working on Facebook. The marketing director comes from Linkedin.

Post photos, post a comment... Nothing really new, except that the number of friends is limited.

"The human brain is not able to have real relationships with more than 150 people." "The concept of Path is really how to share the most important moments of life with only the most important people," says Nate Johnson, director of marketing for Path.

Forty media friends and all information are private by default. Somehow, an anti-social network.

However these mini networks are not positioned as direct competitors of Facebook. Path, for example, is compatible with the famous network.

"We want to leave the user control". Let him make the decision. It is something that you just want to share in Path or press a button and going also to Facebook or another button and going to Twitter. I think we coexistimos all. "We propose a service that Facebook users are not currently on Facebook," explains Johnson.

Some 600 friends on Facebook, more than 10,000 followers on Twitter. Mischa is a social networking addict. For some time it communicates with his former roommate in Pair, a network for two people only.

"You are asked to make a video when you register and this is the video that made him". I like the fact that no new sites where you can say, okay, am going to compratir something and will never come out of there. "Also have the impression that still do not use my data to earn money, so I feel more comfortable to share", Mischa Nachtigal, Pair user.

The control of information is precisely the Facebook problem. This network has proven to be a huge machine to collect our personal data to be used for advertising purposes. Something that has benefited the other social networks, which in the long run may have faced the same problem.

"I think that the failure (of Facebook) are their problems of confidentiality." (New networks) They promise you a safer, more private Facebook or Twitter version. With that promise, they are asking the trust of users. If these networks lost their confidence, will be its biggest problem, because people are going to think... do not to follow on Facebook? ", says Mathew Honan journalist."

Since advertising seems hardly compatible with the notion of private life, remains to see how these new social networks are going to be able to earn money.
